When you are moving your residence to a new place, oh boy, there’s a lot to do. When you are moving your life into the zone of permanent weight loss, oh boy, there’s a lot to do.

For both, there’s clearing out involved. You don’t want to take old stuff that you can’t use any more. That would just be a big hindrance. You want to ditch it, not drag it along with you. When you’ve lost weight and you plan to stay there, it’s especially important not to be carrying your old habits and eating behaviors over your shoulder. They don’t belong in this new place. In both cases, you may need to say goodbye to old friends. When you move to a new town or city, old friends may be far away. When you arrive at a new weight and plan to stay for good, there actually may be some people you’ll stay away from people you instinctively know might not support your grand accomplishment, people who might even help set you on a course of regaining the weight, even if they don’t mean you any harm.

When you move to a new address, you need to find your way around. There will be new streets, new stores, lots of new navigating and new routes to adopt. Also, you’ll be telling lots of people that you’ve moved. It’s the same with maintaining your weight loss. You’ll need to let the people around you know that you have changed your life in this way, and that may change your relationships too. Both moves take preparation, lots of thinking beforehand to make the move as successful as possible. But both will probably seem strange and daunting at the beginning, and you may very well feel nostalgic, missing where you used to be. That’s natural. Keep in mind that moving is one of those big milestones in life that can be stressful, requiring a great deal of energy to adapt to such a big change. Whether you move to a new house or apartment, or a new place in your eating and weight life, you should know that it requires a lot from you.
