Willpower verses Won’t-power: The Big Battle.


You go on a diet, you’re desperate to lose weight. So, Will you stick to it this time—or Won’t you? So many times a woman will begin a weight-loss plan with high hopes and determination, and lose both along the way. And so many times it’s a complete mystery why this happens. Often, the “I will do it” is clear, up front, simple. You want to lose the weight, you want to stop your bad eating habits, you decide to do something about it, you start.  More hidden and complicated are the factors that work on you—from without and within—to get in your way.

It is not unusual for a woman to have absolutely no idea why she couldn’t stick to it. Does this sound familiar? If so, why not go into your next attempt at losing weight recognizing beforehand that this might happen. Then you can set about trying to understand what might happen— before you even start. And then what you can do is, BE PREPARED. Being prepared involves having a good plan to meet hypothetical obstacles in advance of their appearance. It means not having just a flimsy positive attitude - 'ok, THIS time I’ll really, really do it'- not based on anything solid. It means having a new perspective on things to do to MAKE it happen the way you want it to.

And you know what? If you make a good plan, and then begin to falter, you will no doubt be able to see much more clearly what the problem is. Well, I planned to do such-and-such, but this is what went wrong. Maybe now I can try this other way. You see? You would have your eyes and your mind tuned in. You would not just be going on some blind faith.

Try it. Let’s see if Willpower can win out against Won’t-power.
