Knowing I’d be driving around, and the kids may not have time to grab a snack at home, I packed some instead. We love trail mix, and there are a million combinations to making a good trail mix. So, we put together what we like. Usually:
- Almonds
- cashews
- peanuts
- Macadamian nuts
- unsweetened coconut
- Semi-Sweet chocolate chips
- Raisins
- Dried cranberries
One serving of nuts is 1 ounce. Have you ever measured an ounce before? It’s not much. In fact, not weighing nuts really gets me in trouble, because just two handfuls of nuts will put me way over the serving.
Then, I bag it. I hardly ever use my vacuum sealer to actually vacuum pack things. I use it to seal things into single servings; cheaper than purchasing single serving packaged items, and I don’t have to spend money on those special vacuum seal bags.
Then, we have some nice healthy car snacks for the kids.
We love trail mix and have included it in our series for the letter M, because nuts are an amazing source of Magnesium! Without magnesium included in our diet, calcium can’t do it’s job! Strong bones need both minerals to properly form. This is vital for your kids.
